A new picture book based on the beloved song! “The queen of children’s music” — People Magazine
For those who don’t know Laurie, she is a former preschool music teacher who became an indie rocker extraordinaire overnight. She began selling her music over two decades ago on her own independent label, Two Tomatoes Records. Her songs are catchy, fun and her musical talent backs up her love of making music for children. She has a crystal clear voice and her songs are perfect for preschoolers and young children. We have seen her skyrocket in fame when she started to appear in Nick Jr. videos and is now featured regularly on Sprout in a feature called ‘Sing It Laurie’. I’ve written many reviews of Laurie’s albums including “Superhero” that is jam-packed with 21 freshly composed Laurie Berkner originals plus two “bonus” tracks released September 23, 2016. Laurie is always an artist that has several projects in the air and I’m happy to report that “the queen of children’s music,” (People) has a new adorable picture book (this is her 3rd!) that pairs the lyrics of her beloved hit with Ben Clanton’s whimsical illustrations in “Monster Boogie”:
I’m the biggest monster
that you’ve ever seen!
My eyes are purple
and my teeth are green.
I’m big and I’m scary,
you know what I mean?
And this is what I like to do…
Boogie away those bedtime fears, and let out your inner monster! Award-winning and bestselling children’s music star Laurie Berkner’s irresistibly fun song, “Monster Boogie,” is now a groovy and adorable picture book. Laurie pairs the lyrics of her infectious hit with Ben Clanton’s monstrously playful illustrations in Monster Boogie.Laurie Berkner, crowned “the undisputed queen of kindie rock” by USA Today and “the Adele of the preschool crowd” by The New York Times, is widely recognized as a pioneer in the “kindie” music genre. Her music speaks to kids without talking down to them, charming youngsters without boring grownups.
Says Laurie Berkner, “When we’re kids, monsters are scary things. But we all have feelings inside of ourselves that are kind of monstrous. We all want to be loud sometimes (even just to be heard), or get caught up in our big, angry feelings. I wrote the words to this song (that have now been so wonderfully illustrated by Ben Clanton) so that kids could have the opportunity to “BE the monster” and enjoy it, even revel in it, in a safe way, and still feel loved.”
Bonus! Sheet music for the “Monster Boogie” song is included on the inside back cover of the book.
Monster Boogie, a must-have for fans of Laurie, dancing, and all things monstrous, may be ordered on the Simon & Schuster website HERE.
