Don’t miss Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (The Broadway Musical) at Austin’s ZACH Theatre! I was especially excited to take my girls to the show. When my younger daughter was little, she called it, “Booty and the Beast” and because it was her favorite movie, I would hear her say “Booty” a lot. That said, if you have young kids who love “Booty”, but have short attention spans; This is the Broadway Musical and it runs almost 3 hours, so the recommended age is 6+. The musical is amazing, familiar (for Disney fans) and full price for front row seating can take a chunk from your entertainment budget, so this is for families, like mine, who are huge ZACH fans and love musical productions. If you dream of going to a Broadway show here in Austin, Texas, you will not be disappointed!

The musical features the animated film’s Academy Award®-winning score with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by the late Howard Ashman, with additional songs composed by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton. Beauty and the Beast will play The Topfer at ZACH Theatre through September 2, 2018. It is spectacularly directed by ZACH Associate Artistic Director Abe Reybold with Musical Direction by Allen Robertson and Choreography by Sara Burke.

ABOUT Beauty and the Beast:

This “tale as old as time” follows Belle, a book-smart and adventurous young woman and Beast, a formerly dashing young prince cursed by an enchantress. If the Beast cannot learn to love and be loved in return, he and his household including Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Chip will be trapped forever under the spell. The Broadway smash hit showcases a merry, award-winning score with such favorites as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Gaston,” and “Be Our Guest.” This delightful family musical enchants and transforms hearts of all generations.

Tickets start at $30 and are available online at www.zachtheatre.org, by phone at 512-476-0541 ext. 1, or in person at the ZACH Theatre Box Office, in the Topfer Theatre, 202 South Lamar Blvd. (corner of Riverside Drive and South Lamar Blvd.) Monday through Saturday, 12 noon – 5 p.m. ZACH Theatre is wheelchair accessible. Discounts are available for groups of 8 or more. Student Rush Tickets are $20 one hour before show time (with valid ID). Wednesday evenings and Saturday matinees feature arts industry professional pricing.

Run time: Two hours and 40 minutes including one intermission

Plan Your Trip!

Here are a few things to note:

ZACH Theatre does offer drinks and snacks (including alcoholic beverages).
ATMs are not available on site so plan accordingly.
There is no specific dress code, but business casual is appreciated.
While children’s shows are for kids and their families, they do prohibit infants from attending their Mainstage productions to avoid distractions.
ZACH is fully handicap accessible and compliant.
The Topfer Theater (where Disney’s Beauty and the Beast takes place) is located at 202 South Lamar, Austin, TX 78704.
For ZACH’s 85th Anniversary Season the Topfer Theatre has the option to add a pre-ordered bottle of wine to your seat reservation. Simply select the bottle of your choice and it will be waiting for you on the new tabletop in front of your seats!

Parking at ZACH Theatre:

In addition to nearby street parking on Toomey Road, Sterzing Street, Lee Barton Drive, Riverside Drive, and Jessie and Butler Streets (see map here), parking for ZACH patrons attending a performance is also available at ZACH’s Whisenhunt Theatre, at ZACH’s Topfer Theatre, behind the Parks and Recreation Department at night and on Sundays, and at The Bicycle Shop just south of Barton Springs and Lamar by McDonald’s. Parking is $7 per car. For night and weekend performances, attendants will be available to collect payment before the show via cash or secure mobile credit card. NEW: Subscribers can park in the Whisenhunt or Topfer lots for the discounted price of $5 with your 2017-18 hangtag. FREE Subscriber Parking is provided in our designated lot based on availability, they recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your performance. Topfer Theater: a 420-seat proscenium stage in which the seating fans around the stage in an arc, much like movie theater stadium-style seating.
Kleberg Theatre: a 230-seat thrust stage, with the audience seated on three sides
Whisenhunt Theatre: a 130-seat arena stage, also known as a theater-in-the-round.
