After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) (Hardcover)
After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) is a masterful picture book that will remind readers of all ages that Life begins when you get back up.
One of my biggest personal resolutions this year is to continue on my journey of recovery since my diagnosis of PTSD after an MRI brain scan in 2014. I don’t discuss this on a public forum often, but it’s a huge part of my life. I had felt broken and now realize it takes time to heal and I needed the tools to do it. There are times I don’t want to go to my weekly EMDR sessions, do CBT therapy, see my psychologist, or take medication to help ease the affects of trauma. However, I still do the process of recovery because I want to get my life back to where it was and there has been progress. PTSD is a hard topic to discuss with children, especially since my kids are still young, but I found a great book that deals with overcoming obstacles you face in your life and there is no timeline to heal from trauma, as long as you keep seeking healthy ways to recover.
Everyone knows that in the classic nursery rhyme that when Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. But what happened after? Caldecott Medalist Dan Santat’s poignant tale follows Humpty Dumpty, an avid bird watcher whose favorite place to be is high up on the city wall―that is, until after his famous fall. Now terrified of heights, Humpty can longer do many of the things he loves most. He wants to face his fear and gain his courage back, but it’s difficult. There is a beautiful message about the importance of getting back up after a fall and the also realizing that recovering from a trauma takes time, but it is possible. Amazing book!
