The Lonely Mailman (Hardcover)
“A loving tribute to problem solvers, quarrel menders, and peacemakers.” -Kirkus Reviews.
Each year around this time I start thinking of resolutions to make in the new year. I’m constantly trying to better myself, but it’s a very mindful approach to think of things I could have done better and what I plan to do in the future. My resolutions are usually an internal goal and I’ve tried to find books that reflect the ways I plan to put my thoughts into actions to my children. One of the things I’d like to improve on is being more observant of others and more empathetic. It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day grind of working, being a parent, and all those adult responsibilities that come with the territory. When tragedy strikes, most of these day to day things go out the window and we are left to reflect deeply on what it means to be kind and loving to one another. I was especially touched by a book called The Lonely Mailman which I think conveys this message perfectly for children.
Each day, the old mailman faithfully delivers special letters to the forest animals. But the mailman has never received any letters of his own. No one seems to notice that the mailman is quite sad and feels as if no one care about him. Then one day everything changes. An observant mouse realizes the impact of the mailman’s loneliness and decides to do something about it. This touching story of friendship and love will delight readers and letter writers of all ages. It’s also a lesson in knowing just one person can help brighten someone’s day or even life just by being generous with themselves and their intentions. LOVE.
