In Dance with Me, a ballerina in a music box loves nothing more than to dance. But when the little girl who owns the box grows up, who will dance with the ballerina then?
My favorite thing that I love to do with my kids is to read books together. Every now and then we read a children’s book that strikes a chord and ‘Dance With Me’ did for me. This book is about a dancing ballerina jewelry box – one like Brook has and I had as a little girl. You wind up the music box so that when you open it, the little ballerina girl on the top whirls around. In ‘Dance With Me’ a little girl who owns a jewelry box loves to open it up and dance around as the music plays. The little ballerina loves to dance, but notices as time goes by, she sees the girl less and less. The girl is growing up and doesn’t have much time for her ballerina jewelry box anymore. As the ballerina tries to find others who will dance with her, the girl finally closes the lid and the box is stored away. That is —–until a little girl (who looks quite similar to her old friend) opens the box and wants to dance together with her little ballerina. This is a beautiful story about a treasured heirloom and all the memories they hold as they get passed down from generation to generation. What a beautiful book!
