Contouring 101 – The New Hard Candy Look Pro Ultimate Contour and Sculpt Kit
What is contouring make-up? Contouring is giving shape to an area of the face and enhancing the facial structure through makeup. It is a popular technique used by celebrity make-up artists for ages, but if you have the right products, equipment and technique, you can contour your own face at home! Contouring helps define your features, such as creating the appearance of higher cheekbones and a slimmer nose and chin. Just remember, once you’ve applied your contouring makeup, YOU MUST blend well for a flawless, natural look.
Don’t be intimidated by contouring! Just in time for Spring and Summer, the new Hard Candy Look Pro Ultimate Contour and Sculpt Kit includes a tutorial guide to effortlessly sculpt, chisel, shape and slenderize features in minutes!
Hard Candy just came out with a new Look Pro Ultimate Contour and Sculpt Kit and it is a complete collection of contouring make-up products for a CHEAP price. WOW! The kit comes with a tutorial guide (thank goodness!) that allows you to effortlessly sculpt, chisel, shape and slenderize your features for enhanced definition. This was my first time trying contouring and I have to say that I was a little shocked that the kit comes with both cream contours and powder. After a quick Google search, I realized contour make-up usually only come in powders, so it is a different kind of contour product. I had to get the light to medium color kit, but I am also VERY fair skinned, so the dark contour shades look almost too powerful for my almost-translucent skin. The shades came off more as an orange color instead of a brown color, but thanks to the nice brush in the kit, I was able to finally blend the colors into my skin without looking like an Oompa Loompa. Yay for YouTube Make-up Tutorials!
Thoughts a la Momma’s Bacon
I learned one of the keys of contouring is to make your face shape (mine is square) to look like the ‘ideal’ oval shape through make-up. I have very prominent cheek bones and a larger forehead, so pulling this off was not exactly easy. One of the best tips I learned was to use powder in my own personal make-up kit to set the contouring and it made the blending look more natural. I actually LOVED the cream contours because I have dry skin, so I think an all powder kit would be a little too harsh on my skin. If you want to complete your look, do your eye make-up and, for me, I need to add some pretty powerful mascara because while I do have longish lashes, they are very light so make-up overpowers them. All in all, for just 8 bucks, I had a blast at learning this new-to-me technique. I’m not skilled enough to do my own YouTube video, but thank goodness there are many great ones out there that show you how they specifically use this kit. Don’t be afraid to use your own brushes to blend, too!
