Kylie knows it’s up to her to choose how she feels about herself and how she treats others.
Being positive can be difficult in the face of a crisis, but much more manageable when life is flowing along smoothly. However, there is a way to ‘flip a switch’ and remain positive even when the circumstances are difficult. If I have learned anything from going through a very deep and long depression, it was that things always get better and to help me stay in that mindset, I needed to adjust my own attitude. After all, no one else – no therapist, no friend, not even my husband – could get me through my dark time. It was all about me coming to terms with my own issues and facing them head on. I grew up learning to always give my best and when the results were not what I wanted in a time where it felt like the negatives kept piling on, I folded. I had to learn to brush myself off and learn that giving your best IS success. Remaining positive and allowing the good things to shine through among those I perceived as ‘bad’ is an important way to keep your negative thoughts in check. I LIKE being happy and feeling good and I’ve had to learn to take challenges as learning opportunities for growth and not an excuse for destructive thoughts or behavior. As a mom, I want to teach my children the importance of resilience and it doesn’t have to come from my difficult journey, it can come from them knowing themselves and believing that when they give their best, they can feel and BE successful.
In Positive Thoughts, Positive Life!, a girl named Kylie starts keeping her very own List for Life! Journal where she keeps track of what she wants and lives her life by a simple but powerful motto: Always give it your best. Her list contains very true and wonderful messages to think thoughts of happiness, abundance, and success. When you have positive thoughts you can see and attain the desires that are in front of you. You can allow good things to happen to you, and yes, even achieve your dreams. In Kylie’s daily adventures, she reflects (remember that word – REFLECT) on all of the wonderful things that come to her each and every day. If she has challenges, like we all do, she tries to turn them into learning opportunities. The book even contains a place at the end where your child can add their own positive affirmations in a journal page after the story.
There is another important takeaway from this book. Whether you’re a child or an adult, Kylie can teach you the value of daily reflection (there’s that important word again!) and help you discover the power of Positive Thoughts, Positive Life! No matter what age, you can never be too overeducated about having a positive attitude. The author, T.E. Corner believes that adults can also learn from the message in Positive Thoughts, Positive Life!
“Adults always have opportunities to re-learn positive habits and practices, which are ultimately pathways to a life of fulfillment and success,” Corner said.
Well said! And take it from me, when you feel like you are on a sinking ship, grab a paddle and start moving, living and growing. Even if you move slowly at first, you are at least MOVING. You will be surprised where you end up. Your life is worth it and being positive is a personal journey that you have to take on like any challenge. Re-group, reflect, and redirect your life in a better direction and wherever your journey takes you, always keep a positive mindset to have a successful life. LOVE!
