Announcing the 2015-2016 Discovery Series!
I recently did a post on The Austin’s Paramount Theatre’s Discovery Series for families and, in particular, one program called Room on the Broom which was on November 8, 2015. Did you miss the production of Room on the Broom? No worries! There are many additional family friendly shows in the 2015-2016 season at the Paramount. We are looking forward to attending the upcoming show in January, Elephant and Piggie’s We Are In A Play!, based on the Elephant & Piggie books by Mo Willems. I love it when books and performance arts come together, so this is the perfect event for any family. Look for my upcoming review on the Mo Willems show and I hope to see you all there!

Elephant and Piggie’s We Are In A Play!
A Kennedy Center Commission based on the Elephant & Piggie books by Mo Willems
Script and lyrics by Mo Willems
Sunday, January 31, 2016 at 2 PM
Best for Pre K – 2nd Grade
Elephant Gerald is an elephant: lumbering, formally attired, prone to melancholy. Piggie is (what else?) a piggie: perky, smiley, full of fun. Total opposites? No way! In Mo Willems’s beloved, award-winning, best-selling children’s books, Elephant Gerald and Piggie are best friends! In We Are in a Play!, a brand-new vaudevillian romp of a musical, Elephant Gerald and Piggie sing and dance their way through plenty of pachydermal peril and swiney suspense–facing fundamental questions like, What do you wear to a fancy pool costume party? Should you share your ice cream? How can two friends play with one toy? Backed by nutty back-up singers The Squirrelles, our duo even gets the audience involved in the action. So get ready for a musical experience ripped from the pages of your favorite books. You’ll be doing the “Flippy Floppy Floory” dance all night long!

The Paramount Theatre Celebrates 100 Years! Very few places in Austin can make this claim! With all of the new development happening around Austin, and specifically right here on Congress Avenue, it’s truly remarkable that Austin’s original performing arts venue has stood the test of time. As one of the first – and few remaining – examples of early and distinctive theatrical architecture, the Paramount stands as a testament to how important the venue is to the community and the cultural landscape that makes Austin unique. Once you’re here, you can’t help but feel you’ve entered a special place that wraps itself around you, making you feel welcome, timeless and inclusive, both with other members of the audience and the performance itself. From Houdini to Katharine Hepburn, to current artists like Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett and Sheryl Crow, the Paramount, and its audiences, have seen it all over the past 100 years…here’s to the next century!
