The Enchanted Slumber Mail Order Mystery (Fun for Families)

Our family LOVES interactive puzzles and mysteries.  Bob and I spent one anniversary with eight other strangers playing a fun interactive mystery game at the Austin Puzzle Room.  My kids are addicted to making homemade scavenger hunts.  I created the very first one for my older daughter that took her all around the house and she has paid me back ten-fold.  At any given moment, she will slip me a piece of paper and say, “Here’s your first clue!”  Boy, does she have some tricky ones, too!  When I first heard about the new Mail Order Mystery for families, I was intrigued.  Brooke and I did our very first Mail Order Mystery in 2016 and now Brooke’s little sister is old enough to join in on the fun!  Before I get ahead of myself, let me start by telling you all about Mail Order Mystery, our own personal experience, and then tell you how you can get your own!

What is Mail Order Mystery?

That’s right!  Mail Order Mystery doesn’t just arrive in one box, there are a handful of mailings delivered to your door in order to solve the mystery.  How exciting!  In the Enchanted Slumber Mystery Box, you actually receive SIX different items in the mail to complete the puzzle.  This was exciting for my entire family and we were ready to get started from that very first mailing.

Mail Order Mystery Theme. (Ages 8 and up, or 6-7 with help from an adult -see FAQ for more info. Great for girls and boys.) Each new box contains a special theme and ours was the Enchanted Slumber Mystery.  My girls LOVE all things adventure and a mystery about a princess, knight, a troll and a dragon definitely made us all very excited to participate!  As we reviewed the website we learned more about what these mailing entail such as clues, codes, keys, necklaces, and – dragons?  Ok.  I’m down.  Our mission was clear:  A Knight, a Troll, a Librarian and a Dragon needed our help to wake a princess who has been asleep for 699 years.  There is no time to lose – as soon as she hits the year 700 – poof! That’s it! The Princess turns to dust. We needed to solve the ciphers, crack the clues and put the pieces together from different items we would receive in the mail – in time! Could we do what no one else has been able to do in the last seven centuries? Did we have what it takes to be an unsuspecting Hero? We were ready!

Our Mail Order Mystery Experience!

The first thing we received from Mail Order Mystery was the order confirmation with a note discussing the upcoming mystery.  It’s for the adults who purchased the experience, but it was also fun sharing the upcoming adventures with my kids.  It got us all excited and my daughters started to check the mailbox every day to see when the first mystery letter would be received!

“Congratulations! You are about to receive a Mail Order Mystery. Over the next several weeks you will become part of an ongoing story that will be sent to you by mail. Curious documents, perplexing puzzles, confounding clues and unusual objects will be delivered to your mailbox. One by one these envelopes and packages will arrive until at last all is revealed.  Start checking the mailbox and expect the unexpected”

Mailing #1:  Within a few days we received a letter from a knight whose family has been trying to wake the princess for generations and a wax-sealed mission which FASCINATED my girls. Your First Mission: Wake the Princess. Best begin your knight training immediately. Oh, this is going to be FUN!

Mailing # 2: A week after we received our first mystery letter, we got a second letter in the mail with a mysterious necklace with a code etched on it.  At first my girls were interested in seeing if the necklaces physically fit together but then we got down to business.  This time the letter was from a troll (COOL!) who has been guarding a bridge that no one has tried to cross since the dragon burned down the village and all the people ran away.  We had more riddles to solve.  Can we wake the princess?  Stay tuned….

Mailing # 3: Almost a week later, we received another letter from the knight and more clues, a second mysterious necklace and a strange old note written in some sort of cipher.  This was a head scratch-er …we seemed to have hit a wall in our solving abilities.

Mailing # 4:  A second letter from the troll and a top secret package from the troll’s cousin with some very useful documents.  Ah ha!  Now we are getting somewhere!

Mailing #5: A melancholy letter from a dragon who desperately misses his dear friend the Princess. He is trusting you with this last mysterious necklace – it’s his last hope for waking the Princess before it’s too late. There are more riddles from the troll – are we able to solve?

Mailing #6: A beautiful hardcover book came today.  WOW. In its pages we learned about the cruel Queen and the terrible witch who cast the spell on the Princess 699 years ago. You find out about the heartbroken dragon (awww!), the brave knight who tried to wake her and why their efforts failed. You learn how you (the unsuspecting hero) and your new friends finally succeed in waking the princess.

She encloses a gift of gratitude for you but the happy ending doesn’t come so easily. There is one last mission you need to accept.  Your Final Mission: Love.   Ah ha!  This is the moment we’ve been waiting for!!!!!  The hidden notes and clues in the book were amazing and exciting.  Clues added up and……

The treasure is ours!

Our Review of Mail Order Mystery

This is our family’s second Mail Order Mystery and it continues to be one of my most favorite review experience in over seven years! The mysteries are fun for the entire family. I loved every minute of the Enchanted Slumber Mystery Box and so did Brooke and Brie.  All of the old letters, keys, maps, de-coding; it all felt so real.  We waited for each new letter to come and greatly anticipated the outcome.  It’s an elaborate game, and any puzzle lover will find this highly entertaining and it’s MONTHS in the making.  Impressive.  Mail Order Mystery has lived up to its name and their phrase, ‘Extraordinary stories for extraordinary kids’ is something I agree with 100%.  I love that Mail Order Mystery releases MORE new mystery box themes, so check back on their website below for those updates. Two thumbs up for making Mail Order Mystery as exciting for parents as it was for kids.  Wow!  What a fun adventure.
