Meet Lola! Lola knows a lot. She can cartwheel, she can tie her shoes…she can make her sister crazy. The only thing Lola DOESN’T know…is if she’s really ready to go to school.
This may be my favorite ‘back to school’ book this season! This is not only a book about a child’s first day of school, it is also about two sisters, one older and one younger, and how they get along and prepare to go to school. For Lola, this means it’s her VERY FIRST day of kindergarten, while her sister is now a seasoned pro and I would guess is somewhere around fourth grade. I probably image that because that is how far apart in age and grade my daughters will be and also the same distance between me and my own sister! I can really relate to Lola’s older sister, Charlotte, and so could Brooke! Very cool.
For fans of Fancy Nancy, Ladybug Girl, and Chu’s First Day of School, Lola Knows a Lot is an irresistible and hilarious story about a wise and witty girl who is almost ready for her first day at school. She is so self-assured that she knows ‘everything’ and much of the book is her listing all the things she already knows like hula hooping and counting to ten in Spanish. However, her older sister, Charlotte quickly deflates her ego by asking her to name the planets or to show her where Mexico is on the map. Uh oh – maybe Lola ISN’T ready for kindergarten. She realizes there is still much more she doesn’t know. The smart thing about this book is that Lola’s self-discovery of wanting to learn more is cemented by her family’s support that she does know a lot of things, and she can learn more through school and by practice. Even her older sister Charlotte is on her side, even if Lola knows how to drive her crazy. My favorite part is the very last sentence of the book. “I may not know everything yet……but I know I’m ready to learn all the things I still don’t know.” Love!

She’s thrilled to announce the arrival of her first children’s picture book, Lola Knows a Lot, illustrated by the amazing Sara Palacios (there are several more forthcoming).
