New York Times bestselling artist Jane Dyer and acclaimed author Linda Ashman collaborate on this tender story of a mother’s unconditional love for her child.
There are many times when I call my mom and she’ll talk and go on and update me on everything going on in her life and always end the call with, “That’s all I know.” The first time she said that years ago I realized that she was repeating a phrase that my grandma, or my mom’s mom, would often say. My mom has lived close to her mom for several years now and I think the time they have spent together is rubbing off on her! Ha. While I appreciate her updates and information, it’s not why I call her. She never has to end the conversation because that’s ‘all she knows’. There are many reasons why I call my mom, and more often than not, I just like having someone who will just listen. Perhaps she would say the same of me and I’m happy to do that, but I normally never call with any sort of agenda. When I saw the title of this book, All We Know, it made me think of that phrase and when I read the book with Brooke, it sort of paralleled this idea of the ending of my mom’s conversations.
All We Know is a book that ultimately talks about the love between a parent and child. A seed knows how to sprout. A crab knows how to crawl. The sun didn’t need to learn how to wake us each day, and no one teaches a mother how to love their child. They just know. The natural world is beautiful and this book explains how things come naturally in nature, just like a parent’s love. It’s a beautiful message, a perfect theme for a children’s book, and the illustrations are so lovely that it’s hard to not feel a rush of love when you read it. It gives a lot of meaning to how I feel about my family. I love my family. So to my mom, “That’s all I know!”
