Swatch: The Girl Who Loved Color (Hardcover)

A vibrant picture book featuring an irrepressible new character—perfect for fans of The Dot and Beautiful Oops!—from acclaimed illustrator Julia Denos.

I knew that Brooke and I would love this book when we read that it was perfect for readers who love the children’s books The Dot and Beautiful Oops!  Those two happen to be some of our favorite in our own personal library, so I was expecting a lot.  Luckily, we were not disappointed by Julia Denos very first picture book that she not only illustrated (she’s an illustrator, after all), but that she also wrote!

Swatch is about a young girl appropriately named ‘Swatch’ who loves COLORS.  Colors are her passion and she decided she wants ‘to collect’ all of them and keep them as her own.  From brave green to in-between gray to rumble-tumble pink . . . Swatch lives in a world where colors (and her imagination) run wild, and realizes that colors, much like people, do NOT like to be tamed.  This is a fun and MESSY book of how colors work together to make masterpieces and this book happily celebrates the beauty and color in all of our lives.  Love, love, love!

About the Author/Illustrator:  The hardest question for Julia Denos to answer is “What is your favorite color?”  She has illustrated several children’s books, including Just Being Audrey by Margaret Cardillo, I Had a Favorite Dress by Boni Ashburn, Dotty by Erica S. Perl, Grandma’s Gloves by Cecil Castellucci, and Letters to Leo by Amy Hest.  This is the first book she has written and illustrated.  Julia lives in Boston and you can visit her online at www.juliadenos.com.
