(Ages 4 and up) Helps teach children health and hygiene.
As I gladly volunteered to help Brooke’s teacher make their class’s restroom more ‘friendly’ I created an entire list of items I thought would be good to include, especially BATHROOM books. You know, the kind that only stay in the bathroom! I have been focusing on books that teach children health and hygiene especially since restrooms are pretty germy places. I was pretty excited to find this hilarious yet informative book called I Am a Booger….Treat Me With Respect! and have added it to Brooke’s class “bathroom books!”
In I Am a Booger….Treat Me With Respect!, Boogie the booger teaches the healthy way to blow your nose. Yes, Boogie knows that most people think he is gross, and some people even call him a snot. But he doesn’t feel bad because he does great things! Our ‘snot’ actually keeps us from getting sick! While he is a true defender of our body’s immune system, he just wants a little respect; which means no picking (ick!) and CERTAINLY not eating (double ICK ICK.) This book throws in a lot of wonderful information on good hygiene and infection-control, but there is plenty of humour and funny illustrations (and even some well places TISSUES!) to make children- and all who read it – laugh out loud at Boogie’s plight. It’s a wonderful addition for a library or a ‘bathroom book’, especially for kindergartners! Yay!
“”Who knew boogers would command so much respect? This delightful book is certain to entertain children and educate them about an important bodily defense against illness.”” –Lisa Saiman MD MPH, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, Columbia University & Hospital Epidemiologist, Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York-Presbyterian
