Celebrate Poetry Month this April with HarperCollins Children’s Books!
Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22 and was first established in 1970. It wasn’t until 1990 that Earth Day was taken to an international scale and was celebrated by 141 nations! I actually remember Earth Day 1990 quite well. I was in sixth grade and our class was organized with all of the other middle school students to our football stadium and we put on many productions on how to make the world a greener and healthier place. Earth Day is still going strong and this year it happens to fall on a Friday. I thought it was quite appropriate to incorporate both poetry month and Earth Day into one magnificent book post called This Is the Earth that talks about both.
This Is the Earth is geared towards young readers and explores hundreds of years of changing landscape and the impacts that humans have had (both positive and negative) on the environment. This books explores how humans can make a difference in our world through our actions, both big and small, and how everyday habits can help protect the planet. This Is the Earth is a powerful nonfiction picture book from authors Diane Z. Shore and Jessica Alexander, with art by award-winning illustrator Wendell Minor. This lyrical, rhyming read-aloud text shows how smart and simple everyday habits can protect the planet. Earth Day may have passed this year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make every day an ‘earth’ focused day. Keep up the good work!
Making a difference,
together we live
on this Earth we all share.
