Day Out With Thomas is coming to the City of Burnet once again on Ready, Set, Go Tour 2016!
Our youngest daughter, Brie the Toddler, has been obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine for well over a year. When she was first stringing together sentences, one of her very first was trying to sing the Thomas and Friends theme song, which mainly sounded like, “2 and four, six and eight – Thomas and Fwiends!” It was adorable! While we have been avid riders of the Austin Steam Association train rides in Cedar Park for years with our kids (especially their annual Christmas North Pole Flyer), we have never had the opportunity to do their Day Out with Thomas event that begins in Burnet as opposed to their usual station in Cedar Park. This year we are all heading to Burnet, Texas on the first day of October to attend and we are SO excited to go.
During Day Out With Thomas (DOWT) families can take a ride on a real train pulled by their favorite tank engine, Thomas! Kids can also meet the head of the railroad, Sir Topham Hatt, get creative at the Imagination Station, enjoy live music, magic shows, and so much more! All aboard! The 3 mile round trip takes you through the Texas Hill Country where you will see native Texas trees and local farmland in the city of Burnet. Activities happen inside your train car for the duration of the 3 mile ride.
DOWT is a massive three day event that is really very different than what the Austin Steam Train rides normally do. While the Austin Steam Train Association mainly focuses on the ride and the train, at DOWT the train ride is just one component of the activities of the event. Several blocks are shut down around the train station in Burnet to make room for the train, imagination station, storytelling, rock climbing wall, pictures with Sir Topham Hatt, and much more. I’m including the link below that will give you lots of great information about the event and how to buy tickets.
A DAY OUT WITH THOMAS ticket includes a scheduled 25 minute train ride behind Thomas the Tank Engine, all day admission to the Day Out With Thomas events at the Burnet Community Center, and the following activities:
- Live music and entertainment
- Storytelling and videos
- Photos opportunities with Thomas the Train and Sir Topham Hatt
*Photo packages can also be purchased by on-site photographer
- Rock Climbing Wall
- Thomas Imagination Station of interactive play
- Crafts and temporary tattoo stations
- Gift shop
Check it out! Here is a video on the DOWT event from last year!
Day Out With Thomas sells out annually–usually 2 weeks in advance- so we always suggest a reservation to assure seating on the train and tickets are now available for purchase! Parking is free, and is immediately adjacent to the Community Center. Food is available for purchase on-site. All Day Out With Thomas events take place in Burnet, TX, on September 30th, October 1st and 2nd, 2016. There are NO events or departures in Cedar Park for this special event. Remember, children under 2 are free, but are considered lap riders, and are asked to sit on the lap of an adult. They will not have their own seat on the train.
