A Big Surprise for Little Card (Hardcover)

Fall in love with a disarming picture-book hero in this quirky ode to spirit, identity, and the joy of having (or being) a library card.

This title will be released on February 9, 2016.

At Brooke’s preschool graduation last June she was supposed to dress up as the type of job she wanted when she grew up.  Without hesitation, Brooke had told us and her teacher she wanted to be a librarian.  We had never talked about it before, but we do love books in our household and so it sort of made sense that she thought working in a place with tons of books to check out was the ultimate position!  In the following months as she has navigated her first year in primary school as a kindergartner, her plight of being a librarian has never wavered.  In fact, since she has library day at school every Thursday, her desire to work in a library has just increased.  We were excited to read a book about a library called A Big Surprise for Little Card, new from Candlewick Press and releasing in February, since it talks about life living in a library.  To Brooke, that is a nice, big fantasy!

A Big Surprise for Little Card is about a little card who finds his destination as a library card (after a little mix-up).  Little Card is full of energy and spunk so it’s a little difficult for him to be himself in a place that needs to be quiet and is full of rules.  Can he be himself in the world of books?  Offbeat and endearing, this tale of a little guy who gives his all is complete with a sweet ending.  This adorable book is a great lesson for all kids who want to be themselves and can do a great job in their destined careers.
