Splat the Cat is so excited for Christmas! Join him and his family as they decorate their tree, wrap presents, and find out what makes a holiday extra warm and fuzzy in this special touch-and-feel book from New York Times bestselling author-artist Rob Scotton.
Each night, I sit down with my oldest daughter, Brooke, and together we read three books. She’s a kindergartner, so two of the books are early reader ones that she reads to me and then I try and find a cool and fun book that I can read to her. The best THIRD books that I read each night are the ones where our toddler, little Brie, can join us and actually sit through the book. Yes, that actually happens in our house now. How exciting! Splat the Cat books (check out an older review on Splat I did in October 2013 HERE) is one of those special series that can keep both of my girls’ attention – at the same time, gasp! – and the brand new Christmas book just so happens to be a board book and a touch-and-feel book, so it has been a BIG hit in our household.
Splat the Cat: Christmas Countdown starts out on Christmas Eve where Splat, his best friend Seymour the mouse, and his family are gearing up for Christmas. He gets their tree all set up and decorated, he wraps his gifts, and then settles down to try and get some sleep before Santa comes. While Brie is most interested in touching the different textiles in the book (a ribbon for wrapping, a scratchy surface of his tree, etc.) Brooke was really into the words and waiting with Splat to get his gifts on Christmas morning. It’s a cute book, a fun and simple read, and you can never underestimate the power of touch-and-feel books for children. If you are looking for a great holiday book for your little ones this season, be sure to check out Splat!
