Prickly Pear Seed Oil by Kahina Giving Beauty (Holiday Recommendation for Moms)

The new tool in our anti-aging arsenal, with the same attention to detail and sourcing as our best-selling argan oil.

Are you looking for a skin product that helps moisturize and soften skin, restore elasticity, neutralize free radicals that cause signs of aging, brighten under eye circles and minimize spider veins?  I know I am!  Kahina Prickly Pear Seed Oil is 100% organic and sourced in very small batches at the same cooperative that produces our argan oil. Read more about their sourcing here.  Other common names for this oil include Barbary fig seed oil, Indian fig seed oil, and prickly cactus seed oil.  Kahina’s oil is cold first pressed from the seeds and is not to be confused with macerated extracts of the flowers or fruits of the prickly pear cactus.

Kahina Giving Beauty has added the hard-to-obtain Prickly Pear Seed Oil from the Berber women of Morocco to their anti-aging arsenal.  Prickly Pear Seed Oil is obtained from the tiny seeds in the fruit of the Prickly Pear Cactus, known for its tolerance to extreme drought, and has been used by generations of Berber women to fend off the effects of the dry desert conditions.  Richer in consistency than pure argan oil, Prickly Pear Seed Oil goes on velvety smooth without leaving skin greasy. With high concentrations of tocopherols, amino acids, Vitamin K, essential fatty acids and antioxidants, prickly pear seed oil has been shown to restore elasticity to aging skin and more.

The work of extracting prickly pear seed oil is even more labor intensive than argan oil, requiring approximately four days to collect and dry the tiny seeds for one liter of oil, making it one of the most expensive beauty oils in the world. The same attention to detail throughout the harvesting and production process that has resulted in Kahina’s superior Argan Oil, has produced a superb outcome in their Prickly Pear Seed Oil. The pure cold-pressed oil is bottled at the source, including the Berber women of Morocco in even more of the value chain.  This oil is refreshing on the skin, smells lovely (the oil’s natural scent is reminiscent of hay), and is a great moisturizer for my dry skin.  The added bonus is that Kahina gives back to the women in Morocco through fair pay and educational opportunities.  This makes a thoughtful and wonderful holiday gift for anyone special in your life.

Extremely rich in amino acids, Vitamin K, essential fatty acids and antioxidants, prickly pear seed oil has been shown to:
• Moisturize and soften skin
• Restore elasticity
• Neutralize free radicals that cause signs of aging
• Brighten undereye circles and minimize spider veins

Richer in weight and texture than argan oil, prickly pear seed oil is ideal for dry, mature skin types.

Ingredient: opuntia ficus indica (prickly pear seed) oil* *Ingredient from Organic Farming 100% Organic 100% natural.

Giving Back:  Katharine L’Heureux, the founder of Kahina Giving Beauty coordinates with the Berber women who inhabit the argan forest in the Southwest of Morocco, the hard work of extracting argan oil offers them their only means of financial and social independence. In addition to paying a fair wage for our oil, Kahina provides the women and their families additional support by funding local initiatives. In this way, Kahina gives back to the women of the cooperatives by enhancing their quality of life in—and beyond—the workplace. Katharine L’Heureux is collaborating with the cooperatives and other local social activists to initiate positive changes in the women’s lives and their surrounding communities.  They are women helping women through shared beauty rituals.
