Rollors — America’s New Favorite Outdoor Yard Game!
Welcome to your new favorite outdoor yard game!
There is so much importance to play. Being outside and playing games with my family is the best way to spend my time. There are times when the girls enjoy sitting in the grass having snacks and listening to music, but more often than not, they want something to do. We’ve come up with all kinds of great things like drawing with chalk, blowing bubbles, bouncing on trampolines, riding bikes and getting lost in one of Brooke’s many pretend adventures. While Brooke is at a point where she can entertain herself for periods of time, the majority of her time is still directed by what she wants me to pull out for her. This time I had a great answer!
Rollors! OK. What is that?
It is a new outdoors game that is very simple to learn and easy to play and very entertaining. Intrigued?
Here is a pretty simple explanation of how to play Rollors:
You have numbered round wooden disks (AKA Rollors) that you pitch or ‘roll’ (NEVER throw) from 25 feet away to a color coded wooden goal. The rollor that is closest to the goal is the winning person and that means that all of the rollor points of the winner tallied for that round. The really fun part is that you score points from your rollor based on how your rollor land. That’s right! They don’t all just land on one side or the other! Read the official rules here.
Rollors is like a combo of Bocce, bowling, horseshoes and I think there are definite elements of shuffleboard. Rollors is an outdoor game mish-mash of classic game fun. It’s for families and the recommended age to begin playing Rollors is four. Brooke is the perfect age to play and it was actually not too hard for all of us to play in our side yard with Brie running around since Brooke didn’t even try to pitch the rollors randomly, which was nice. It is so good to have a physical game like this we can play with our oldest! Bob and I have gotten decent at playing games like cornhole and horseshoes (plus we are actually decent bowlers) so the game felt fun but still a challenge. We plan to bust it out at our next BBQ and see if we can start some tournaments!
Created by a Veteran with Veterans
Rollors was created by Matt Butler, a military veteran who visualized the concept for Rollors between overseas deployments. Starting with a prototype that was developed in his garage and sampled at parties and barbeques, Butler soon realized this game was becoming a party hit! As he decided to move forward with taking Rollors to the next level, Butler employed several local veterans who had wood working skills to develop his game. Rollors is now distributed nationwide.
