Introducing Quinoa, Protein-Packed Alternative to Rice Cereal

I am not a total health nut, but I do try to pick healthy foods and that especially extends to foods for my kids.  I also love to try new products, in case you haven’t noticed.  I grew up in a city that had a lone teeny, tiny health food store (yes, I was shocked to find a health food store there, too!) and it was always a treat to go through the aisles and pick out new and interesting foods and products to try.  It was in that little store that I first tried Sleepytime Tea, Dr. Bronners and tiger balm.  I also formed an appreciation for things like kale, spinach and soy.  When quinoa (keen-wah) hit the shelves en masse a few years back as a trendy item, I admit I had seen it but had not tried it.  With a nutty and earthy flavor, it was great to finally try the seed (yes, it is referred to as a grain, but quinoa is actually a seed from a vegetable related to spinach) after reading it had almost double the amount of protein than rice as well as high fiber content.  Don’t let the ‘hip’ label that quinoa has enjoyed fool you, this is an excellent source of protein and is gluten free.

NutureMe NurturMeals Protein-packed Quinoa is the newest flavor cereal created for babies as young as four months.  Quinoa is high in digestible iron and has all the essential amino acids as well as being high in protein, calcium, fat and B vitamins.  This is a great alternative to rice cereal when starting babies on solids!
