Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22 and was first established in 1970. It wasn’t until 1990 that Earth Day was taken to an international scale and was celebrated by 141 nations! I actually remember Earth Day 1990 quite well. I was in sixth grade and our class was organized with all of the other middle school students to our football stadium and we put on many productions on how to make the world a greener and healthier place. Earth Day is still going strong and this year it happens to fall on a Sunday, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate a few days early in the classroom!
This year, I was able to put together an awesome list of Earth Day items for Brooke’s second grade class and it was really fun and rewarding. I took into consideration what I thought were great crafts and items for kids to be able to take home and use. I also wanted to add educational items and learning incentives to incorporate into the Earth Day theme which was possible through the company, Oriental Trading. Plus, it helps a teacher out when you donate fun holiday items to their classroom! Bonus!

My Thoughts: While I am always impressed with the quality and quantity of my Oriental Trading purchases, I was also excited with how fun and useful the selection is for Earth Day themed items for the classroom through Oriental Trading’s website. It’s great to be able to provide creative crafts, Earth Day incentives, and writing materials for kids to celebrate the occasion while encouraging learning. Oriental Trading is a wonderful source for classroom materials and it’s an easy way to get kid’s even more excited about Earth Day that they may not even realize they are also learning at the same time.
