Gustafer Yellowgold ‘All-Ages Alternative Show ‘ 6/4 @ Scottish Rite Theater

If you aren’t familiar, Gustafer Yellowgold’s Show is a funny and touching multimedia performance of music, colored-pencil animations and storytelling. The music and ‘moving art’ shows are performed by Grammy™ nominated artist Morgan Taylor. All of the songs are whimsical and super-catchy narratives that explain the life of a friendly alien from the Sun who now resides in a wildly imaginative version of the woods of Minnesota.

For those in the know, the Gustafer Yellowgold experience is equal parts acoustic rock concert and minimally animated movie. The songs are equivalent to alternative music for children and the the video elements unfold in graphic novel fashion which are appealing to both adults and children. Taylor began honing his songwriting skills after he moved from Ohio to New York City in 1999 and began a career as a successful sound engineer. Not only that, as a self-taught cartoonist, he started drawing Gustafer Yellowgold in the winter of 2004 in between his touring gig with Autum Defense (featuring WILCO’s John Stirratt and Pat Sansone). Taylor debuted his first live Gustafer concert in the summer of 2005 in Seoul, Korea and his first two CD/DVD sets dropped in 2007. To say this has been a long journey may be an understatement.

This September will bring the release of Taylor’s 8th album Brighter Side for which we are sharing the first singe and video “Lucky Day”. Also just announced, Taylor will be performing his show at Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival later in June and will wrap up the year with his recurring holiday show alongside The Polyphonic Spree this December.

The exciting part for us Austinites, is that Gustafer Yellowgold is coming to Austin to perform a family-friendly show at the Austin Scottish Rite Theater! That’s right, Austinites and families to see Gustafer’s show in action. I admit, I was hoping he would visit when my kid’s had no other obligations and it just so happen that we can ALL GO! YES!
