AMERICAN SPECIALTY TOY RETAILING ASSOCIATION (ASTRA) MEMBERS NAME SNEAKY CARDS TO THE 2016 “BEST TOYS FOR KIDS AWARD” LIST!
Think of this game as a Pokémon Go-esque inter-active in nature, but with a karma play-it-forward mentality. It’s not exactly a game that has an end, it’s more of a ‘pick a card and go forward’ type of game. You can play it with younger children, but I believe the reason behind the age 12+ on the game label is due to the stranger danger issues. You wouldn’t have your 6 year old asking to take selfies with a stranger or creating a flash mob, but you can most certainly have them participate with you if you wish! I am not an extrovert, so in playing this game I had to cast aside my reservations and admittedly, there were a few cards I decided to skip, but I am definitely down for the theme and fun of the game and it is most certainly entertaining! Let me explain!
Sneaky cards is a card game with a mission. You don’t have to accept each mission, but in the event you do you are considered a secret agent of joy, spreading art and intrigue to the unsuspecting public! The cards have missions stamped with different intentions like ‘Care’, ‘Connect’ and ‘Engage’ and we have the most fun with the caring cards. For example, one card was to buy someone coffee. Simple enough, right? However, when you give someone the coffee, you are also passing on the sneaky card to them so that they, in turn, can do it for someone else. How do you know the game continues? Well, truth be told, it might not. We have a few cards out there that may have just vanished after using. However, if you want to track your cards and the person you passed it to is game, you will first need to log each card in at sneakycards.com before you ‘play them’ and type in their assigned number. If the next person is willing, they will do the same. Your card may even end up at the other side of the world doing good or fun in the hands of the user. While we are down to just a few ‘Care’ cards to go and several ‘Connect’ cards (I could play the entire game of just ‘Care’ cards!), I’ve been a little hesitant to do most of the ‘Engage’ cards. I could definitely see myself doing more of the cards when I was a teenager but I think I have lost some of my adventurous spirit with strangers along the way as I’ve gotten older. I’ve enticed a few friends to try some of the cards, so we’ll see how the rest of the game plays out. It’s been a cool adventure and I like when my daughters see me doing something kind for a stranger. What a neat concept. Play it forward!
