Papillon is a very fluffy kitty. So fluffy that he’s lighter than air! His owner tries to weigh him down, but Papillon just wants to fly.
There is a big reason why my girls were drawn to the new children’s book by debut author/illustrator A.N. Kang and it has to do with our large, fluffy white part-Siamese cat, Bella. Bella looks EXACTLY like Papillon, the main character in the book, and that made it fun for my kids to read. As stated in the book, Papillon is not fat, he is just FLUFFY. He is actually lighter than air and that’s exactly what lands him in trouble in this first book in the Papillon series through Disney Hyperion books!
On just an average sunny day when Papillon was not interested in going to the market with his ‘person’ Ms. Tilly, he ends up floating right out of the window! Oh no! At first, Papillon is very excited about floating around the world, but after a few scary run-ins, Papillon just wants to find his way back home. Luckily, he finds a lovely animal friend, a little red bird, who helps him on his journey home. This is a fun and silly book geared towards small children and if you are huge cat-lovers like us (who might also happen to have a big fluffy cat!) it’s especially entertaining. A.N. Kang’s artwork is fun and whimsical and we look forward to future Papillon books in this new series!
About the Author/Illustrator: A. N. Kang (www.annakangdesign.com) was born in a little town in South Korea, with endless rice fields around her house. She grew up entertaining herself with picturebooks, and drew constantly. After moving to the United States as a teenager, she graduated from art school and began to design jewelry, greeting cards, and holiday installations all over New York City. She now lives and works in New Jersey with her sassy cat, Papillon. This is Kang’s debut.
