Welcome to the premier small batch soap manufacturer in the S.F. Bay Area.
I was looking for soaps that would work well for the holiday season. I am putting together baskets for my mom friends and my daughters’ teachers and was looking for some recommendations when I came across Metaphor Organic. I was very impressed with their site and mission. Their desire is sustainability and it only takes reading their website to know just how seriously they take this mission. Metaphor created these small objects of desire with the hope they will gesture toward as-yet-unimagined possibilities. They wanted a better world, so they made sustainable soap. How cool is that? Since I was looking for seasonal soaps for gifts, I immediately was drawn to their Cinnamon Spice Soap. I’m including the ingredients below which are just as impressive as their mission for sustainability. People approach environmental justice because it’s the right thing to do or because they are terrified of what the world will look like in 30, 20, or even 10 years. Metaphor Organic wondered if sustainability can also be an aesthetic as well. As quoted on their site, Confucius said he never met a man who loved virtue more than beauty. Isn’t a sustainable future also a more beautiful future, as well as something to be desired heart-first at full speed? Yes, this is getting into philosophical issues I rarely touch on in most of my blogs, but the sentiment hit me like a ton of bricks. I want to live in a world where beauty and sustainability function as one and Metaphor Organics not only BELIEVES it, it also LIVES it. Amazing! I have to say that their Cinnamon Spice soap is one of the most breath-taking scents I’ve ever smelled in a soap and it stays with you all day. It’s a perfect gift to yourself or to your loved ones and I’m proud that I chose a company that believes in environmental justice and sustainability on top of making quality soap. Who knew?!?!
Cinnamon Spice Soap Ingredients: Cinnamon with hints of lemon and cedar. As with all our soaps, ingredients include the best saponified organic olive, coconut, palm, and castor oils, as well as essential oils.
People ask us if we consider soap a work of art. We are more interested in whether a business model can function as a work of art.
What Makes Metaphor Organic Soaps so Special?
1. The soaps are completely handmade in wooden molds that they made themselves. They also hand-stamp their boxes with a rubber ink stamp. If you want to read more about rustic productions methods, Metaphor Organic Soaps highly recommend reading The Toaster Project by Thomas Thwaites.
2. They focus on organic, local, and natural ingredients. They use certified organic coconut and palm for the base oils (which constitute 85% of the soap) and olive oil that comes from a local family farm too small to wrangle with the organic certification process (but who still follow organic farming practices).
3. Local distribution. They have a few stockists scattered as far as Maine and South Korea, but most of their accounts are within easy reach by bicycle and/or public transportation in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Psst! Don’t forget to check out their website for more of their fantastic soaps such as Lavender Fields, The Full Monty, S.F. Coffee, and Oranges and Cream! There’s even Beard Soap for men!
