Octopus Escapes Again! is a fascinating tale about how an octopus uses her survival skills to escape her predators while also being on the lookout for her own prey for dinner. It’s the questions that many animals face on a daily basis; Will she eat? Or will she be eaten? The story goes into depth about how an octopus adapts to their surroundings and has amazing abilities like being flexible due to having a boneless body and being able to change color for camouflage or having a siphon to squirt ink to cloud the surrounding water to make a quick getaway. I actually learned (or re-learned?) that an octopus can even leave one of their eight limbs behind to trick their predator. Wow! It’s a fun and informative book about the life and biology of the extremely intelligent octopus that is perfect for the younger generation of future marine scientists. The back of the book includes supplemental education materials and I’m including Dawn Publications link below that has free downloadable material for this book that includes creating your own camouflage animal and a demonstration on ink and how it helps an octopus hide from predators. About the Author/Illustrator: Laurie Ellen Angus was inspired to create Octopus Escapes Again! after an encounter with an octopus in her local aquarium near her home in Long Island, New York. Angus grew up near the beach and could often be found knee deep in the water searching with delight for sea creatures to play with, such as horseshoe crabs, and also routinely chasing her younger brother around with them. Laurie doesn’t chase her brother anymore, but does continue her fascination with the ocean, often taking long walks and observing the diversity of sea life along the shore. Laurie attended Parson’s School of Design in NYC. Combining her love of nature and design into her artwork, she hopes to inspire children to have a similar fascination of the many amazing creatures that live in the ocean. Laurie lives on Long Island, New York, with her husband Richard, two quirky cats, and a rambunctious rabbit. Octopus Escapes Again! is Laurie’s first book with Dawn Publications.
