Austinite Bob Schneider’s latest release, available on Amazon Music, I Will Find You No Matter What: The Songs of Luc and Bob Schneider is “one of the most rewarding things I’ve had the pleasure to do since I began making music,” he says.
I love when artists record music with their children, but I don’t always expect to like the album and just appreciate the sentiment. I have a musical family, so picking up guitar and writing music seemed to flow naturally, but I don’t think my parents expected I’d be a musician. Each child has their own special and unique skills, and when I heard that Austin musician Bob Schneider (Check out Austin’s Saxon Pub every Monday or his previous bands including Joe Rockhead, the Ugly Americans and The Scabs) was releasing an album via Amazon to be available for streaming on Prime Music on September 16 with his 11-year old son Luc, I was a little hesitant to listen and review. I’m an Ausinite. I have heard of Bob Schneider. What if I didn’t enjoy the songs? I waited a week and then I opened my ears and by the third song on The L, “Denied”, played, I was hooked. I was caught up in all these emotions just listening because the lyrics, beautiful vocals by son Luc, and the light guitar by his father, hit me so hard. I couldn’t deny that this father and son duo have talent – together – and it’s a wonderful thing to hear.
Ain’t it nice to be so free
Ain’t it good to be alive
With a feeling so good inside
A feeling that can’t be denied
The songs of Luc and Bob Schneider was written and recorded with Bob’s now 11-year-old son Luc, who sings on several of the songs. In fact, two of the songs were recorded when Luc was just four years old which was seven years ago. I think that speaks to all the RIGHT reasons about making music with your child. The songs they created and recorded were never for profit, their musical creations were a fun way for father and son to bond. The songs feel like an album that came about organically over the years and it feels like they are enjoying each other’s company and creating something special together. Schneider says that when they would record over the years, it was under the premise of just having fun together, and it shows. I laughed through much of the song “Vacuum Cleaner” which features a very young Luc with his dad, repeating the chorus in such a sweet way. There are a lot of silly and wacky lyrics, but there is also a very positive message that flows throughout the album. Our two favorite songs are “Space Escape” and “Denied”, which have lyrics that will catch you off guard at how beautiful life is and how fortunate we are to have our family.
It’s a work of creativity for the joy of being creative without any outside considerations. “It was just fun working with my son,” says Schneider. “It’s very human, honest and real.” And in doing so, appeals to the child in us while also brimming with adult appeal and delight.
If there is just one song you have to listen to on the album, make it Track 3 “Denied”. I absolutely love it and took a stab as to what I think the lyrics are below. Go check out the album on Amazon and stream this song and sing along. You are welcome! 🙂 Bob, I hope you do a few concerts in Austin with Luc. My family and I will be there!
“Denied” Lyrics (my guess at the lyrics below!)
A giant panda lived on Jupiter
A big old spaceship for a bed
Star ships flew in circles
Lit up night in the sky
Out in space above his head
And when he dreams that night
He shoots lasers out of his eyes
And dream of riches and gold
And he had a friend named Sam
Who is the best friend in the land
And they dreamed they’d never grow old
Ain’t it nice to be so free
Ain’t it good to be alive
With a feeling so good inside
A feeling that can’t be denied
There are stories that will never be told
I could tell you a few
There are things that cannot be said
So I keep them in my head
And in my dreams at night there are stars that shine so bright
They shine almost as brightly as the sun
And when I wake the day is waiting just for me
I guess that’s just the way it’s supposed to be
Ain’t it good to just be so
Ain’t it nice the things I know
With a feeling so good inside
A feeling that can’t be denied
Ain’t it nice to be so free
Ain’t it good to be alive
With a feeling so good inside
A feeling that can’t be denied
This is truly a family album for music lovers of all ages. The album will be released via Amazon and available for streaming on Prime Music on September 16. An animated video which brings the songs to life visually is set for release at the end of this year via Prime Video. Check it out!
