Americana Mash-Up: Brady Rymer and Band Hit ‘Press Play’ on June 24
Brady Rymer and his rootsy band celebrate the release of a new album called Press Play with various concerts this summer, kicking off with a show at NYC’s City Winery on Sunday, June 12th.
‘Press Play’ marks the 8th release from two-time Children’s GRAMMY Award nominees Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could and it may just be their best one yet. ‘Press Play’ is a dedicated album that is lovingly fixated on Americana music. What is Americana? Americana, as defined by the Americana Music Association (AMA), as “contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. Rymer and his band hits all these notes through rhythm and blues, gospel, rock and roll, and hints of country, folk and bluegrass. It’s quite an impressive feat to mix and layer this vast collection of music in just 12 original songs. Yet, the Little Band That Could did just that with ‘Press Play’.
‘Press Play’ is an album that exudes personality that is both catchy and engaging. Americana music is known for being non-commercial music that is not perfected in a studio, but one that has a ‘real’ analog feel and emotion. ‘Press Play’ has songs that talk about being together, doing good for others, finding empathy, and a reflection on one’s life and the past. These are all stories we share together as people and Brady and his band have backed these beautiful lyrics with rich and layered musical textures with instruments like horns, steel guitars, and fiddles. Every song reflects Rymer’s life-affirming exuberance. Families will jump in and enjoy the catchy, sing-along hooks and engaging stories, along with the colorful and creative musicality of Press Play.
NPR’s All Things Considered notes that Brady’s NYC based band (Claudia Mussen, Liz Queler, Seth Farber, Larry Eagle, Jeremy Chatzky and Dan Myers) “might just be the best sounding in children’s music.” Rymer realizes that his audience spans ages and generations. “We encourage all of our listeners to look at the world through another’s eyes, surprise themselves with what they can achieve, try the unimaginable or hey! Maybe even change the world with a simple small action,” he says.
