Valentine’s Day Educational Ideas from Oriental Trading for the Classroom (Sponsored Post)

Celebrating Over 80 Years of Fun!

Right now Oriental Trading is having a Valentine’s Day with up to 50% off on all of their holiday items.  Go check it out – and then come back to finish my post!  🙂  Valentine’s Day was always my favorite school holiday because we made card boxes out of old shoes boxes (mostly donated) and we all looked forward to sharing cards with one another.  One year, I even won ‘Best Decorated Valentine’s Box” when I was in first grade.  I was so excited for that certificate!  I want my daughter’s to have the same kind of fun I had for this holiday of LOVE and wanted to get her classmates some fun crafts, kits and useful educational items, so the first place I looked was my favorite online party place supply store, Oriental Trading.  They never disappoint me.  For less than $40.00 I was able to get enough bookmarks, Valentine’s Day card box craft kits, and an adorable pencil sharpener (the class is concentrating on handwriting at the moment) to make their holiday all the more special!

I’m including a few of my favorite items I received and I’m also including a homemade craft that you can make for your kid’s classroom as a DIY project.  Remember, Oriental Trading has a TON of inexpensive and adorable Valentine’s Day items, so be sure to check out their website on all the possibilities.  My DIY project I’m doing this year on top of the Oriental Trading items is a cute idea that I learned from my mom and it’s a great way to add a personal touch to your special Valentines.  See below for details and Enjoy!

DIY Project!  Squeeze My Cheeks and I’ll Give You a Kiss – Hershey Kiss Valentine’s Day Craft (Cite:

What You’ll Need:

  • Hershey Kisses
  • Yarn
  • Wiggly Eyes
  • Yarn Needle
  • Plastic Canvass

Easy Instructions:  Cut out three squares of plastic canvas in 12×12 then cover with your choice of yarn.  I prefer a scotch stitch.  Add googly eyes with glue and if you are feeling REALLY creative, make some yarn hair and glue on a nose.  You can print out a little piece of paper to attach to each little guy along the lines of “Squeeze My Cheeks and I’ll give you a Kiss”.  Insert a Hershey’s Kiss  inside each Valentine buddy and hot glue the slip of paper to each one.  Once the child squeezes the little monster’s cheeks, his mouth opens up to reveal a Hershey’s Kiss.  Brilliant!  For more specific instructions, check out site that gives detailed instructions for a similar Christmas craft with much better step-by-step instructions by a really AWESOME crafter!
