Discuss the history, customs, and celebrations of New Year’s Day.
After Christmas, I always felt let down since it seemed like the holiday season was over. BUT WAIT – we can’t forget about New Year’s Day!! In fact, New Year’s Day is a huge celebration all around the world with each country and even REGION celebrating the New Year in their own unique way. Since German is part of my heritage, we have to have sauerkraut and pork. It’s a must. In Texas, you have to eat black-eyed peas for good luck. And that’s just in our country.
New Year’s Day (Celebrations in My World) is an excellent book that is is simple and direct for kids K-5. I love all the colorful pictures and it has presentations that can be included with teacher’s units on New Year’s Day. This book is a wonderful outline! If you want to get your kids interested in multi-cultural and global lessons, this is a wonderful read. Happy New Year 2016!
