Beautiful, creative Jinja jewelry is lovingly hand crafted in Bali

Did you know that every state in the U.S. has a designated gemstone just like our birthday months?  I didn’t either until Bob gave me a blue topaz necklace for our wedding anniversary last year and declared me an ‘official Texan’.  See, I was born in Ohio, but my husband was born here in Austin and so were both our kids.  Considering I’ve spent almost a decade of my life living in Texas, I suppose it was now time to make it an official.  Topaz is the Texas state gemstone as well as a birthstone and while it occurs naturally in many colors including blue, orange, brown, green, pink, beige and red the most common variation, the colorless topaz, can be treated by irradiation to produce a wide range of shades of blue. Thus treated, blue topaz is one of the most popular and widely used of all gemstones and is associated with all things ‘Texas’.

While I am usually not a jewelry wearing person besides my wedding ring, I have been wearing my blue topaz necklace non-stop and decided I needed to jazz up the ensemble since Bob and I are now ‘allowing’ ourselves kid-free date days and nights.  I was being picky and could not find earrings that matched well with my necklace and I also look for companies that give back.  I finally found a company called Jinja Jewelry that employs Balinese people who were affected by the tragic bombings in Bali in 2002 and have done so much for their community.  They make beautiful sterling silver and natural gemstone earrings that happen to be available in blue topaz (as well as amethyst, peridot and garnet).  Stunning!  The earrings match wonderfully with my necklace and this ‘Texan’ now feels like her jewelry set is complete.  I can’t wait for our next date night!  Yee-haw!

Jinja Mission:  Jinja came into being in the aftermath of the disastrous and tragic bombings in Bali in 2002 to help provide income for the Balinese people who lost their jobs due to the sharp decline in tourism.  What started out locally has now grown into an international business that spans the globe.  Jinja products now support many families, providing a safe and secure future for the people of Bali.

Jinja’s motto is “People Helping People”
