Katniss Arrows – Knotted Headband (Kids) (Austin, TX Company)

Soft, stretchy and comfy in fun and modern prints!

Austin, Texas, my adopted city, has its fair share of celebrities who live in its parameters, but I met one (albeit before he was a ‘celebrity’) when I was living and working in Cincinnati, Ohio when I was a newly married twenty-something.  Before I go into one of my run-on sentence-fueled-‘Bacon’ stories (*gasping for air*), let me give you a little background to where I am going in case you want to skip ahead.

I saw a fun knotted Katniss Arrows headband by the cool local Austin company, Sweedie Kids, perfect for the girls – and it resonated the strangeness of the world and how in some small way each person we meet, no matter how brief, can have some sort of small impact on our lives.  Yeah, this came from a knotted headband.  My brain does work in mysterious ways…..

Full (Embarrassing) Disclosure:  While I know everyone is gaga over the Hunger Games movies,  I’ve actually never seen them – yet.  I promise you it is from lack of time than lack of interest.  I will get around to it when the kids are in college.  You have more free time when the kids are at college, right?!

Anyway, I actually met Josh Hutcherson before he was in those movies (one of the leads, in case you didn’t know…)

Josh  From Josh’s Wikipedia Page.  Not exactly how he looked when I met him…

Just another day at the salt mines?

I worked in the same office as Chris (AKA Josh’s dad which is how I’m sure he is referred to now) and I was in an administrative officer position and he led the quality control at a Cincinnati EPA office.  I was always running around yet very stoked about my gig at one of the divisions under the National Risk Management Research Laboratory and it was a great place to meet lots of interesting people.  Josh was just a little kid (maybe tween?) visiting his dad at work right after he did the voice in the animated movie, The Polar ExpressAnother embarrassing disclosureI didn’t see Polar Express until last year with my oldest.  Yikes!  Hey, I didn’t have kids at the time….  It was a blip in my memory and probably none in his (they were actually waiting to talk to the super awesome acting division director and I was updating reports to the Environmental Information Management System to top it off), but I did remember a conversation involving him working with Tom Hanks (yes, I knew/know Tom Hanks, thank you!), so the info was rattling around somewhere in my brain.  Since that time, I’ve moved positions and to Austin and have been too busy with life and being a mom to really notice certain things going on in the world, much less what was happening in his career, but one day a few years ago I happened to see the first Hunger Games movie trailer that was on a constant cycle on commercials and immediately said, “Oh yeah….that person looks familiar!”  It took me a few minutes, and after verifying with the ol’ office, I knew it was my old co-worker’s son.  Pretty random, huh?

While I’ve yet to see the Hunger Games movies, I am at least in touch enough with reality to know that arrows have to do with the main character Katniss from the movies, played by Jennifer Lawrence.  She uses a bow and arrow as a weapon, right?!  I kid! Of course with all the mass publicity of the films, I know that she does!  Josh Hutcherson plays the lead named Peeta in all the Hunger Games movies, so now my little story comes full circle.  Ahhh!  SO – my POINT….

…with the popularity of the books and movies, this cool Katniss knotted headband by Sweedie Kids with the fun arrow design is a must for all little fashionistas who want the perfect headband – because who doesn’t want a knotted headband!?- to give them style and comfort for their hairdo.  They are made out of the fab 95% Cotton/5% Lycra mix and the material is stretchy enough that ours fits both my one year old and my almost-kindergartener’s head, no problem.  The headband actually comes in three different sizes (see below) and can easily be untied and adjusted to fit your child’s head perfectly!  Brie and Brooke, of course, look adorable and hip in their Katniss headband and I got to tell you a fun and long-winded story, so win-win.

Plus, did I mention that the headbands are MADE right here in AUSTIN, TEXAS?!  Yup!  Mark all your social media websites to include this company.  Whether you are originally from Appalachia, like Katniss and I, or here in the Live Music Capital of the World, you can be cool and modern in your style.

Oh, and if someone you meet says they have worked with Tom Hanks, you should probably get your picture taken together right then and there.  D’oh!
