Life Cycle of a Ladybug (Age 4+)

The saying goes that a ladybug symbolizes good luck. Did you know that? It is said that if a ladybug lands on you, then you are blessed with good luck. Brooke and I may be in for quite a lucky year then!
But, did you also know that ladybugs have a pretty cool and just as interesting life cycle as a butterfly? It’s true! And now your kids can have fun and learn more about it, too.
Safari LTD is able to use these awe-inspiring transformations to be manipulated and observed in close detail with Safariology® Life Cycles. How fun! There are so many different ways to use the life cycles as learning tools for preschoolers and it is a great way to talk about the circle of life (and no, I will not break into song….)
Here are some ideas on ways you can use this activity to do additional learning with an activity Brooke and I did earlier this year on the Life Cycle of a Butterfly:
- Create or locate the life cycles with arrows
- Cut out each section
- Have a great discussion of the life cycle complete with the replicas
- Let your kiddos glue the life stages on paper or cardboard as a learning reinforcement activity
Before: Our supplies were all ready for discussion! I used a cut-down I found on a mom blog and a cardboard box to glue down the cut outs.
After: The complete Life Cycle of a Butterfly. We love The Very Hungry Caterpillar book which was a great way to do this activity! You can probably find something just as cool for ladybugs!
