It probably all started with my great-aunt, Flossie. She would let me read all of her ‘rag’ magazines when I would visit her apartment as a kid and all of the articles and ads stuck with me. I was never a fashionista but I certainly found clothing and looks in the ads of great interest and when I saw an item I liked, I tried to think of ways to re-create the look. I still remember going to rummage sales out in the boondocks to try and find a second-hand fake fur winter coat in piles of used clothes. Hey, I found one!
I was in my early twenties when I was working for Counsel and met my co-worker and still-great friend, Steph, when my fun celebrity gossip dependence began. I found that talking with Steph about celebrity gossip and fashion was a great way to pass the time when things in the office would get too boring or to lighten the mood when things got really busy and tensions – *cough* the attorneys’– would get too high (which seemed to be an either-or situation in that environment.) While we gathered and researched for cases or were putting together documents for a specific court date, we would discuss clothes, music and crazy celebrity antics. It was a blast. I found it was really fun to know different styles in fashion and began to experiment with different looks. I even tried to wear heels for the first time. Yeah, I did give up on that one….
I never spent a lot of money on fashion for myself (which can be sometimes embarrassingly obvious when I see photos-ha) but since having two girls, I do like to keep up with adorable pieces for them! If you follow celebrity magazines or blogs, Matilda Jane Clothing is always a featured company for children’s clothes for good reason. I love adorable clothes on my girls and Matilda Jane Clothing is one of those shops that you can never go wrong. Matilda Jane Clothing’s Indiana-based company is all things sugar and space and made right here in the USA by designer and founder, Denise DeMarchis. It is almost like a private club with Trunk Keeper Shows and knowing a local Trunk Keeper to purchase this collection. It’s not something I knew a lot about going into it, but the clothes are certainly worth this club-like way to purchase clothes!

Matilda Jane’s material is high quality and durable and the vibe of this collection is ‘vintage circus flower child’. Yes, I just made that up but it fits!
