The Sleep Miracle
My older daughter was a relatively quiet baby. We assumed that all the noise and fuss in her NICU experience made her able to tune out the relatively quiet noises around our house. Apparently, the universe decided to make up for that with Baby Brie. Her issues with acid reflux (and our not realizing it was acid reflux at first) led to a lot of crying episodes that left us all exhausted. Apparently, the Baby Whisperer does know a thing or two about the magic of shushing since it actually does seem to calm down babies when they hear this type of ‘white noise’. While we did end up having to get a prescription for liquid Zantac for our baby for reflux, the importance of a white noise machine to get her to calm down and sleep has been priceless.
The Baby Shusher was created by parents who took the old technique of shushing a baby to sleep to a new level. The battery operated white noise machine of ‘shushes’ has two timer options of 15 or 30 minute intervals of continuous shushing to get your little one to sleep. I love that it has an adjustable strap so we can easily move it from one object to the next. The volume dial is adjustable and we keep the level fairly loud since it seems to put Brie to sleep faster. Amazingly, the noise seems to have her out within five minutes most of the time. Even our older daughter knows it works and when Brie was crying yesterday, Brooke said, “Mom, turn on the white noise so she can sleep, ok?” and then let out a big sigh. Thanks, Brooke, apparently you have the mom thing down, too. Ha!
