Flat Stanley Goes Camping – I Can Read Level 2 {Paperback} (Ages 4-8)

Flat Stanley to the Rescue!

You know about Flat Stanley, right?  No?  Well, just in case (and, yes, I do sometimes forget not everyone is as well versed in children’s literature…oops), Flat Stanley is a children’s book character that came out in 1964 (yes, six-four) by the late Jeff Brown.  While Brown can no longer write his Flat Stanley books, his legend lives on in many writers who have taken on the task of keeping Stanley and his adventures alive.

Here are a few factoids on Stanley:

  • His last name is Lambchop
  • He was flattened by a bulletin board on the wall
  • He made the best of his ‘altered’ state by being mailed to friends all over the world
  • Stanley is known for his world travels and has become a picture icon for traveling kids

In this particular book, Flat Stanley is feeling a little – well – flat.  He is different and sometimes feeling different to a little boy is not easy.  Nothing makes him happy, not even his usual camping trip with his family which includes little brother, Arthur.  But who saves the day when he and Arthur get caught on a cliff with no way out?  The reading adventure is perfect for emerging readers and keeps the attention with exciting stories which fits right in to the I Can Read series philosophy.  Plus, it is also fun to see what kind of adventures a flat boy can do!
