Weird. Original. Austin

My first stint in Austin was in 2001.  My husband was born here and was stationed briefly in San Antonio when in the Army to visit the city where he was born.  We returned to Texas in 2006 and back to Austin in 2008 and have made it our home.  It’s a great place to raise kids, lots of great music, mild winters and a chill atmosphere.  It’s a big city but without the crime (I used to live in Cincinnati, so crime here is very mild).  The only downside is probably the rent and the traffic; both of which have seemed to triple in size since 2001, but that is what happens when you have no state income taxes, a bad economy and a nice place that people want to live.  It may not be the same Austin as when Bob’s parents lived here in the early 1970s, but we still love it.  I also like to support local companies that are awesome and the Austin Tie Dye Co is one of those little gems that make one-of-a-kind products with a personal touch.  Super cute!

The first thing you may notice when you check out the Austin Tie Dye Co store is that there isn’t a lot of products to purchase besides a few tees and produce bags.  That is one secret to her success.  Becca, the founder and owner, encourages special requests and will tie dye practically anything.  In fact, her business started after she tie dyed her baby’s burp cloths to a great response.  As she says, special requests are the ‘heart of the company and encouraged’, so just let her know what you would like and she will tie dye it for you, Austin-style.  Even better – Becca does NOT charge extra for personalized colors OR designs.  Now if that isn’t Austin friendly, I don’t know what is.  I recommend getting a few tie dyed stocking stuffers from Becca and make it as weird as possible to show your Austin spirit.  Brooke is quite fond of her ‘Austin’ look, especially while helping daddy shop at Whole Foods or Central Market!  Yes, we are bag-less here!

Momma’s Bacon Exclusive:  Austin Tie Dye Co was nice enough to give my readers a 10% discount!  Just use the coupon code ‘BACON’ on her Etsy orders at the following link.  You won’t regret it!

  1. I ordered 2 shirts for my boys in green and blue. The are amazing and no fading after many washes. I also got a long sleeve in pink for myself. I always get lots of complements!
