I was never in to dolls, but I loved my animals.  My first few stuffed animal friends were ‘Rackly Raccoon’ and ‘Strawberry Bear’.  Later on I had a set of salt and pepper shakers that looked like Siamese cats that I called Tom and Sue.  I carried them everywhere until an unfortunate accident of an epic fall in either Kroger or Mr. Moneyworth that came to their demise.  Not exactly a kid’s toy, but I loved them just the same.  It made sense that my next biggest obsession was My Little Ponies.  Not only did their initials spell out my dad’s (which I thought was completely funny since a lot of their items sported ‘MLP’ on it; they were animals I could care for, brush and bathe.  I have always loved animals and as our furry animal family grew (we had three cats by the time I was nine, we treated them as siblings!  I do think teaching children to take care of an be kind to animals is just as important as teaching them to be nice to other people.  It seems to have worked so well in our family and on top of Brooke petting animals nicely, learning to brush them and feeding them food, she is now able to learn (just like in her doctor’s kit) that animals also need medical care, too.
