My husband and I were (are?) huge Seinfeld fans. We have even seen him do stand up. It is one of those shows that if I am flipping channels, I will stop and watch even though I know most of the shows by heart. When my husband and I first got together as an official couple we even celebrated Festivus. If you don’t know what that means, you have to catch up on old episodes. We followed all of the crazy characters and I had a special place in my heart for one of George’s girlfriends turned fiancé who met her demise with tainted wedding cards, Susan. The fact that I had no clue she played and sang beautiful music and is quite talented at ukulele was a little shock to me. I like to pride myself on knowing all things music and I missed this one. Luckily, I’m a quick study and Susan’s (I mean Heidi, of course) second children’s album just hit the shelves on September 10. It’s like an old friend and, well, a nice cup of tea!
My Cup of Tea CD by Heidi Swedberg and the Sukey Jump Band is about darn near perfect for a family album. The music is acoustically beautiful and Heidi’s voice is delicious. It’s crisp and sweet like a summer apple. This has a very old school feel probably because the songs are historic and enchanting. From the Americana roots of “The Owl and the Pussycat” and “Comin’ Round the Mountain” to a Latina lullaby, “Duermeté; Civil War song “Johnny Martin;” and a Haitian Creole tune, “Wi Wa.” What is amazing is that this entire album was funded by fans off a Kickstarter campaign. Awesome. Heidi keeps a busy schedule and teaches weekly music classes at McCabe’s and Los Angeles schools and does national touring, including a stint at Austin City Limits (again, I am kicking myself I did not know). Keep on the lookout for her show coming to a city near you. I know I am!
