World Music Adventures from Putumayo Kids!
The world music-centric Putumayo Label’s latest album is focusing their summer release album on a country near and dear to my heart – America! The summer release date which was just in time for the 4th of July also happens to coincide with the Putumayo World Music’s 20th anniversary as a label. Fantastic! The music on this CD is what I would call traditional American and folk style music. It is fitting that artists like Dan Zanes, Guy Davis and Elizabeth Mitchell are performing on this album much to our delight. Family-centric music like “She’ll Be Coming’ Round the Mountain” and “You Are My Sunshine” scream of family music sung together on car rides and campgrounds.
The American Playground CD includes 20 pages of liner notes including historical information on each American song. Classic covers classics like Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” to Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” made this an immediate family favorite. My daughter loves when we dance and sing together (I knew all the words by heart even before hearing the CD) and it has been on a constant rotation since we received it. A little Texas tidbit for those in Texas like us: Your family may recognize the country artist Aaron Watson who covers the classic, “Blue Skies.” I can’t imagine any family not loving this album and we feel very fortunate to have it in our American classic collection!

This Little Light of Mine is a song I want my son to learn!
This is the first I have heard of this, and I bet my niece would love it! There are so many good songs on there, one’s I used to love as a child!
OMG I love these songs.. well at least most of them like Oh Susana, This land is your land, and especially You are my sunshine.. I would love this CD because my 6 year old loves these songs also…
