Anyone Can Learn to Read
Reading to me is like unlocking parts of your mind and absorbing information at a phenomenal rate. Knowledge is power so reading is power. I try to imagine a time when newspapers were not readily available and it could take months for someone to find out something happened just a few states away. We are living in an amazing time where information is generated so quickly and the news we read is right up to the minute. I mean, they even work up draft obituaries for ailing celebrities! How crazy is that? That said, reading is so important to me and I believe that every child has the capacity to read. I want children to read and not just because ‘they have to’, but because they love to read. When I first heard about The Reading Game for emerging readers, it got me excited. I want to make reading fun and enjoyable. Making reading fun is a great key to an excellent future reader and writer!
The Reading Game is an action-packed memory card game that includes six different stories that are told by using just thirty new words broken down into a set of five words per story. For example, after you finish the first game, the Skunk Story, the child will have learned five words (can, cat, is, me and not). Each story is illustrated with storybooks and cards that make the game exciting and enjoyable. The repetitive and fast paced nature of the game builds reading confidence with an element of a little competition (there is a winner every few minutes). Although all readers learn at their own pace, it certainly helps to learn faster when the learning process is fun! Highly recommended!
