Product Review: 30 Minute Mozzarella & Ricotta Kit (Family Fun!)
New England Cheesemaking Supply Company. Helping Cheese Makers Since 1978.
Some people spend their anniversaries buying each other expensive gifts or going on lavish vacations; we are making cheese as a family. And, we loved it! As my blog follower, you will have read my numerous cooking with kid’s product reviews and this is another fun review with a special twist. It’s my husband and my 9 year wedding anniversary! Wow. And, I mean, Wow! The time has flown by for the most part, especially since the birth of our little buzzy bee, Brooke. As we are really alone in Austin as far as immediate family, our tiny family unit has become intertwined in each others schedules on a constant basis. It’s fun, exhausting and well worth any tired and confusing mornings at work before I down my 10th cup of coffee (ok, more like two or three, but still…). I wouldn’t want to spend a small part of my anniversary in any other way than with my two loves making homemade Mozzarella & Ricotta cheese for the first time. I mean, what could go wrong, right? It’s a kit!
The 30 Minute Mozzarella & Ricotta Kit is exactly what it says it is, it is a way to make cheese in 30 minutes. But apparently, I didn’t know a lot about making cheese, so thank goodness we started with a starter kit. This kit contains enough ingredients to make Mozzarella 30 times using this recipe and the included recipe book has a lot of great ideas for making quick and easy ricotta and some recipes that use both kinds of cheese. Be sure to read all the instructions on the box and the website before starting and I’m including a few great links for you, as follows: Best Milk to Buy, Mozzarella FAQs and the Mozzarella Making Video (highly recommended). We were thrilled with the kit, we learned a ton of how to make cheese and it is tasty…and we made it together. How awesome is that?
Here are the contents of the kits:
- Dairy Thermometer (E3)
- Butter Muslin (U2)
- Citric Acid (C13)
- Vegetable Rennet Tablets (R4)
- Cheese Salt (S1)
- Recipe Booklet
Be sure to check out the other cheese making kits including the more advanced versions which we are not ready for just yet. Give us time, though, this endeavor was a very tasty one, to say the least. I highly recommend this product for fun family time. Any, hey, I think our first attempt at making string cheese is pretty impressive!
Note: Happy Anniversary to my husband of 9 years, Bob, my stay-at-home-dad husband who keeps the ship steering.

Happy anniversary! I also tried a kit from a local brewery a few months back using a recipe I found on Pinterest; while it took a lot longer than 30 minutes for me, warm, fresh, gooey mozzarella is a worthy anniversary party.
Thanks so much for your comment! I am excited to try more kits and I also found lots of cool ones from the same company at a local place in Austin (on Metric). Very cool! Great anniversary gift for sure.
Yep, that’s where I got mine, too! Right across from Goodwill.
Yes, that’s the one! Awesome.
This sounds like fun! I might have to go and check this out. I love cheese!
Hi Kristin! Thanks so much for your comment. I *heart* cheese, too. Let me know how yours turns out. This kit is supposed to be one of the ‘easier’ cheeses to make. It was fun and more to it than I had imagined.
