Learning Disguised as Smiling

Ever heard of the technique of SyllableSync?  Marketers may call it something different, but the concept is something used in advertisements for many years where the power of simultaneously printed words with spoken words on the screen will get a concept stuck in your mind.  Do you really love that certain brand of hamburgers or has some clown just hypnotized you into buying his Le Royale with Cheese?  OK, so that’s a silly comparison since we are not discussing advertising; we are talking about taking this concept for reading instruction and learning.  Almost like live-action flashcards, Readeez DVD and CD instruction is designed to do three things to help children learn to read through seeing the individual syllables of each word to show the following:

  1. How the sound the child is hearing is written.
  2. How the characters the child is seeing are pronounced.
  3. How the word is correctly spelled.

Check it out!  Here is the FREE Readeez video for Circle and Square.

As you can see from the Circle and Square video, the repetition is actually very entertaining for children and the words on the screen are done with very clear and large text that is really great for early readers.  Creator Michael incorporates a ton of original songs through life action with the help of his daughter, Isabel (presented as a cartoon character), and all of their conversations and lyrics are presented in real time on the screen for our children’s reading pleasure.  There are a lot of educational topics covered from math to money to nursery rhymes and, the obvious, reading comprehension.  Some songs are just silly little endearing tunes like Isabel telling her dad to come check out her clean room before it gets messy again! As a family where the father is the primary care giver, I really love that Brooke can see the sweet and obvious affectionate relationship the father and daughter duo that the Readeez presents on screen while getting the SyllableSync message.  Lovely.

There are many ways to bundle the Readeez products and this particular review is through the Readeez Digital 2.0 Bundle that all of the products Readeez offers but in digital form.  This includes three instant-download videos, an instant download of the deluxe Songeez MP3 collection with lyrics PDF, the Nursery Rhyme Collection and the Money Math Collection.  While there are MP3s and PDFs, most of the bundle is done through video.  The bundle works great on PCs and wonderfully on iPads and iPhones.  The Creater Michael did tell me that he did not recommend Windows Media Player for the videos if you are using a PC and instead suggested iTunes or VLC.  We watched them all through iTunes (*ahem* thanks to my husband for setting that up for me), a little bit at a time, and that worked out great for us.

About creator, Michael Rachap, (pronounced Ray-shap):  Michael is a fellow musician (although he is *very impressively* formally trained), father to a daughter and considers himself a Stay-At-Home Dad (We love that coming from a family with a Stay-At-Home Dad!).  When he was a new father, he read countless children’s book and became interested in children’s media.  Unhappy with many of the digital reading programs on the market, Michael set out to create his own!  Read the rest of his interesting bio here.  Check out the Readeez Product Store here, which includes the purchase of DVDs and CDs as well as other digital bundles, like the ultimate MEGA bundle.
