“Books You Want to Have”

Pre-child, my husband and I took a fun vacation and drove from Texas to Nevada with several planned stops on our way to our main destination of Las Vegas.  However, looking back, the actual highlights of the trip were not hanging out on the Vegas Strip; it was the stops at several of our National Parks, including a great afternoon at the Grand Canyon, that made the trip so memorable.  The natural beauty and wonder of our National Parks are so incredibly awe-inspiring that people in the United States should not take them for granted.  Bob and I have a goal to take Brooke to every major National Park within the Continental United States before she turns 18 and I thought a book for children on America’s National Parks would be a great way to keep track of our upcoming adventures!

National Parks: A Kid’s Guide to America’s Parks, Monuments and Landmarks is a family-oriented and kid-friendly guide that explores 75 parks, monuments, and landmarks around the United States and U.S. territories.  This book has so many interesting facts as well as a great overview of the history of our parks.  Little factoids like, ‘12,000,000 immigrants came to this country through Ellis Island National Monument!’ are peppered throughout the magazine-style easy reading layout of this reference guide.  This book lives up to its slogan that it offers an educational tour of America that is easy for children to read.  A bonus is that this book includes a Fold-out Commemorative Quarter Collector in the back.  Very cool!

Did you know?  The U.S. National Park Service sponsors many fee-FREE entry days throughout the year, including a week-long National Park Week!  Check out their website here for more information.  No excuses – many of the 397 national parks in the United States NEVER charge an entrance fee!  Go out and enjoy our U.S. parks with your children!

    • Thank you so much for your comment! This is an excellent resource for families on the U.S. National Parks.

I also wanted to cite the Operation Gratitude’s latest blog post on the Scarves for our Troops project and hope there are some readers out there who have this type of talent and want to contribute. I fully support your mission to support our soldiers! http://opgrat.wordpress.com/
