Product Review: Flip Flap Body Book {Hardcover} (Age 4+)
The future of our world depends on the education of our children. EDC delivers educational excellence one book at a time.
For those not familiar with the Usborne Flip Flaps, they are books with high quality standards familiar of the UK-based Usborne Books with interesting add-ons to regular reading with the help of fold-out flaps. While there is a wide range of fantastic categories of Usborne books (hobbies, history, science, nature, foreign language) in which to choose, I was fascinated by the Body Book since it really breaks down and allows young ones to see and discover our remarkable human body. Even I, as the parent, would like to find out what happens to my food when I swallow and this is just the book to find out this sort of fascinating yet educational experience of our bodies with our children.
The Flip Flap Body Book takes a look at our astounding human bodies with wonderful detail (though easily understood) and great fold out flaps for additional learning. The book is written in three parts; “What Happens to Your Food?’, ‘How do your Senses Work?’ and ‘How are Babies Made?,’ My only warning would be to parents that don’t want to expose their young children to “the birds and the bees” yet. There is a section specifically to educate young ones on how babies are made. The section on babies is gently written and I will have no issues reading it to Brooke. While it talks about reproduction, it does not deal with how the baby got into the mom’s womb so if you are not prepared for any inevitable questions from your extra inquisitive kids that are not dealt with in the book, you may want to skip that section until you (*ahem* I mean – they, of course) are ready. As a huge science buff, it is awesome to have a children’s book (4+!) to help break down our amazing bodies because they are, well, pretty amazing!
About EDC Publishing / Usborne Books: Although the Educational Development Corporation began to develop educational materials for schools from Delaware in 1965, it was the success of their distribution of the UK based Usborne children’s books in 1978 that expanded their company and made it more of a major success story of publishing today. Peter Usborne and Usborne Publishing began publishing books in 1975 with the intent to create non-fiction children’s books that could compete with modern media. Usborne has since grown into one of the world’s leading publishers of children’s non-fiction and has been translated into over forty languages. For another Usborne like-product for the older crowd, check out the Complete Book of the Human Body for ages 8+.
