Product Review: TickleMe Plant Family Greenhouse with Paint Set (Ages 5-105!)
Ever Grow A Plant That Moves When You Tickle It? Now You Can!
Even as a toddler we have incorporated lots of nature activities in Brooke’s daily life starting with her very important job of watering our baby trees. She has a tiny watering can she has been using since she started to be a strong walker and we talk to her about the trees and how they need to drink water. She has gotten very good at giving the ‘tees dwinks’ and likes to gently ‘pet’ the pretty leaves sprouting off the branches. I started to put together a little child-size gardening tool kit for her through various eBay and discount sales and she has accumulated a cute little haphazard product set that is perfect for her size. I have been on the lookout for some fun pseudo-gardening activities that I could monitor with Brooke to ramp our nature activities to a new level and the TickleMe Plant Family Greenhouse with a Paint Set was a funky way to begin her plant-growing introduction.
The TickleMe Plant Family Greenhouse with a Paint Set has everything you need to create your own little TickleMe Plant (aka Mimosa Pudicas) greenhouse. The set includes a recycled plastic reuseable greenhouse, 6 mini plastic flower pots, 3 seed packets of the TickleMe Plant, 6 soil pellets and a 6 color acrylic fabric paint set with a small paintbrush. The greenhouse and flower pots are reusable and you can buy separate additional seed packets and soil pellets through the TickleMePlant website. This is such a fun activity for a family to introduce a very unique plant and gardening to children. While the paint set was a nice touch, it was a very small set and we used a different larger paintbrush to get Brooke in on the action. The seeds began to sprout very quickly and looking at the plants while watering them has become a fun daily activity. While our TickleMe Plants are still on the small side, we will be caring for them for a very long time as a family.
Here are some additional Tips for a successful TickleMe Plant Family:
- Adult Supervision is needed for Children!
- Put the TickleMe Plant Seeds in Very Hot or even Boiling Water and let soak 24-48 hours before planting.
- Remember to put the plants in a partially to mostly sunny area as close to 70 degrees as possible.
- Keep the plants away from chilly windowsills and air-conditioners.
- Plant seeds no deeper than 1/8 inch (just slightly below) the soil.

About Mimosa Pudicas: Nicknamed the “Sensitive Plant”, Mimosa Pudicas are a fun curiosity for kids because their leaves move by folding and expanding when you touch them. The plant is native to South and Central America although now often grown as a houseplant. Note: The first set of leaves that appear within a few days after planting but are not the sensitive ‘moving’ leaves which do not appear for another three weeks. Warning! Adult Mimosa Pudicas can grow thorns but they can be removed with a nail clipper.
