Product Review: Your Body Belongs to You [Paperback] (Pre-School-Grade 2)
It is unfortunate that many of us know someone or have been personally affected by child sexual abuse. The book Your Body Belongs to You takes a very difficult subject of inappropriate or unwanted touching and simplifies it for small children (2+) so that they can empower themselves if they are faced with a situation where they feel uncomfortable. It is a short and direct approach to let kids know that they are the owners of their body and they can tell people if they do not want to be touched. I plan to teach my child that it is okay to stick up for yourself if you do not want to be hugged or kissed, even with people you know and love.
Statistics show that the people doing the inappropriate touching to children are more likely to be someone close to the child and not a complete stranger. This book covers that subject brilliantly for the preschool aged child. The book also covers the definition of ‘private parts’ (everything covered up from your bathing suit) and that if you were touched inappropriately than you should not keep it a secret. The focus at the end that not all touches are bad and that most of the time it is nice to get hugs and kisses from others.
Cornelia has also authored the pamphlet Talking About Child Sexual Abuse published by Prevent Child Abuse America. The pamphlet is $ 1.36 per copy and discusses warning signs of possible abuse in children, ways to screen child care providers, how to report suspected abuse and how adults can cope if you were a victim of sexual abuse as a child.
It is important that we let our kids know that the lines of communication between us are open and, even if they feel uncomfortable with those that we love and trust, to let us know so that we can look into the matter on their behalf. I highly recommend Cornelia’s products as great resources for parents to build this relationship of trust with their children.

This really is a tough subject. I have a 3-year-old who is super outgoing and doesn’t know a stranger. I have been struggling to teach him about privacy and stranger danger. Thanks for the review!
Thank you so much for your comment! This is exactly why I decided to start a public review blog from my research into kid’s products. I am always on the lookout for great products to share so thank you for letting me know people are reading and finding them useful. Good luck to you and your son on this very tough subject. You sound like a wonderful momma!
