The Magic School Bus Science Explosion (Ages 5+)
Mr. Dad Seal Of Approval 2015 Father’s Day and Creative Child Magazine 2015 Game Of The Year Award
I am the mother of two girls and as someone who went into the field of mathematics and statistics, I knew how difficult a road it was for me in school and especially college being one of or sometimes even THE only female in my courses. Thankfully, in this day and age, most people understand how important it is to get children, especially girls, on a STEM or STEAM or even STREAM track. Math, science, engineering, art and robotics are all requirements for a competitive workforce and a thriving nation. While technology certainly plays an important role in bringing all of these elements together, sometimes old-fashioned give and take game play is wonderful at stimulating young minds.
My daughter, Brooke, is now a kindergartener and I am happy to say that they take the fields of science and math very seriously from day one at her school. I like to encourage and incorporate these learning elements at home and the new The Magic School Bus Science Explosion is ideal for kindergartners and elementary schoolers. The box includes two exciting experiences — match science-based topic cards to master cards in one game and use memory and strategy skills in another. The Young Scientists Club founder (and mother of five) Esther Novis, offers a wide-variety of gender-neutral science programs for preschool and elementary-aged kids. It was a brilliant idea to bring in the popular book and TV character Ms. Frizzle of the Magic School Bus in a fantastic science-based game that adds an instant appeal to children. I think it is so important to encourage our kids in the fields of math and science and I especially am sensitive to make sure my girls know that these fields can be pursued.
The Magic School Bus Science Explosion is a wonderful tool for grown-ups to encourage all children to pursue the sciences as they play at ages 5, 6 or 7. As the Young Scientist’s Club’s name suggests, it is never too young to get excited about experimenting with your hands. The Magic School Bus Science Explosion is all about learning the different fields of science and you want to be the first player to explode the volcano. Did I say explode?! YES! Science Explosion offers two exciting games in one where players can either match science-based topic cards to master cards or use memory and strategy skills in another game. The game has a large laminated two-sided board, volcano, bowl, 4 colored measuring cups, clear measuring cup, 16 science master cards, and 80 science topic cards for your own science adventure. The only thing you need to add to the game is the players and a little baking soda and vinegar for the explosion! Whimsical instructions can be read by youngsters or by an older sibling/babysitter/grandparent for a memorable adventure.

ABOUT THE YOUNG SCIENTISTS CLUB: Esther Novis, a mother of five and a former Harvard-trained biologist started The Young Scientists Club as a summer science camp for her then 5-year-old son. Friends from other parts of the country told Novis they wanted to duplicate her concept and the idea for a science subscription service was born! The subscription kits are now mailed monthly to thousands of children around the world and the company’s retail kits are sold in hundreds of specialty stores. In addition to developing new products for The Young Scientists Club, this wise mom has many years of experience teaching at Phillips Academy, Andover and has written the science column for Parents Magazine plus wrote science experiments for the new science curriculum by McGraw-Hill Publishing.
