When My Worries Get Too Big! (Paperback)
Children who use the simple strategies in this charming book, illustrated by the author, will find themselves relaxed and ready to focus on work or play!
My own personal issues with anxiety force me to seek out books that illustrate how to self soothe and give good stress-relieving strategies for kids. I am fortunate that my children do not exhibit the same levels of worry and anxiety that I deal with on a daily basis (thanks to my husband, I imagine!) but the statistics are out there that children who have a parent or parents with anxiety are more likely to experience it themselves. In fact, anxiety is considered the most frequent disorder in children and can seriously impact success in academic achievement and social avoidance. Yikes!
In When My Worries Get Too Big! there is plenty of evidence-based teaching activities for parents and teachers alike. While it is a simple illustrated children’s book, it is filled wth wonderful opportunities for talking and participating in different self-calming strategies. It is a great way to talk to kids about how to relax and focus so that they can feel at ease in their work and play. While I have learned many of these techniques as an adult, the benefit has greatly increased my likely hood at not being stressed and I find it is exceptionally good to read before any new or different activities (like getting a new teacher) that my children may have. It’s a great reminder to stay and be CALM.
