We are excited about Brooke’s upcoming leap into Kindergarten and since her school year starts earlier than most elementary schools in the United States, she is making this transition in a matter of weeks.  We have so many things to do before she starts; getting her uniforms fitted (apparently, she is a skinny child!), figuring out lunch details, enrolling her in aftercare, figuring out the pickup/drop off routine, meeting her teacher, and buying school supplies!  Whew.

Brooke’s school supplies can be purchased in one of two ways; we can buy our own individual items or we can give a lump sum of money to the school so that the school can order the supplies on Brooke’s behalf.  Pretty cool.  It also brings up memories of growing up in Appalachia where some children’s families were not able to purchase supplies due to funding and many teachers were left to scramble to make sure all their kids had enough supplies for the year.  This, of course, still happens today but the internet has made it easier for those that want to support our teachers give donations so they are not dipping into their own pockets.  I love how one family business takes this donation step into their own hands through a tee shirt purchase where all of the profits go directly to their daughter, Brooklyn’s, teachers to fund their purchases of school supplies.  Awesome!
